What is Counselling?
is a talking therapy offering support and treatment for a wide range of mental health and emotional issues.There are many reasons why people seek counselling. Whether you are experiencing a problem for the first time,
or have been struggling with long-term difficulties it can be of real benefit to talk with a counsellor.
Counselling offers regular dedicated time and space as well as a consistent relationship in which to
consider yourself and your life, with a view to gaining new insights and developing better ways of coping.
Some useful information on what to expect
The initial session offers an opportunity to discuss what brings you
to therapy , to meet with your counsellor and to determine if you might work together. Research shows
again and again that the effectiveness of the therapy or counselling is affected by the relationship you have with your therapist
or counsellor. It is therefore important that you find someone who you feel comfortable with and who you can build a trusting relationship
with.Following your initial meeting you should feel better informed about
counselling, whether or not it is appropriate for you at this time; and have a clear sense of what you can expect from
the counselling process.
amount of sessions required and the frequency of sessions will vary depending on the issues presented and your personal
circumstances. As a guideline, brief therapy may be helpful when addressing a specific issue however deep
rooted problems may require more intense long-term work.
If you choose to engage in counselling we will discuss a treatment plan and
a time-scale of sessions appropriate to you and review this on a regular basis to ensure you are getting your needs from therapy
